NEET Eligibility for MBBS Abroad
Yes — as of 2026, an Indian student must qualify NEET-UG to pursue MBBS abroad if they want the degree to count towards practising in India. NEET qualification, plus NMC's FMGL-2021 rules, decides whether your foreign medical degree is recognised back home.
Do you need NEET for MBBS abroad?
To later register and practise medicine in India, NEET-UG qualification is mandatory before joining a foreign medical course, per NMC rules. A student who studies abroad without qualifying NEET will not be eligible for the FMGE/NExT screening test and therefore cannot get Indian registration.
Minimum NEET requirement is qualifying the exam (meeting the cut-off percentile for your category). Confirm the current year's cut-off and any age criteria on the official NMC and NTA notifications before you apply.
